PopCap’s Peggle for Android out tomorrow?

June 17, 2011

PopCap tweeted earlier today that Peggle would be out to download for Android “very soon…”

This is likely to mean tomorrow if my calculations are correct – and quite possibly for free too. Sadly it’s going to be another Amazon App Store exlcusive for the time being but you know there’s a way around that for the rest of us who DON’T live in the USA.

To recap on what Peggle is follow my article from last year on some of the best PopCap games.

Plants Vs Zombies Android and Peggle Android nearly here!

January 18, 2011

OK so I’m a day late spotting these photos but Jeff Green, PopCap’s Director of Editorial and Social Media, posted some photos yesterday of himself playing Android versions of Plants Vs Zombies and Peggle.

They’re looking pretty good to me so hopefully they’ll be out of Beta soon so we can also get out slowly rotting flesh on them.

Click the images below to enlarge.

Plants Vs Zombies Android never looked so good!

Peggle Android looking pretty sweet as well!

If you haven’t seen my previous post about these games then be sure to check it out below. Hopefully PopCap will release some more of their classic games to Android soon.

[Update] Joystiq have reported:

PopCap isn’t sharing details on its upcoming Android titles, saying only that they are “coming along” and that the first titles — not necessarily Plants vs. Zombies or Peggle — should launch in Q2 2011.

So it looks like we may have to wait until June time before we see anything hitting our phones 😦

Plants Vs Zombies and Peggle coming “in 2011” for Android

Plants Vs Zombies Android

[Update 18/01/2011 – Plants Vs Zombies Android and Peggle Android nearly here! PopCap confirm a Q2 release for Android users. Click here to read more ]

It’s now got a date. The time we’ve all been waiting for – the time where we’d be able to play Plants Vs Zombies (and Peggle) on our Android phones.

PocketGamer managed to speak to Sameer Baroova yesterday to get the following statement:

I am delighted to confirm that we are working on bringing both Peggle and Plants vs Zombies to Android in early 2011

Apparently, the reason Window 7 phone gets a PopCap game before us Android users is down to our “fragmented device base” (whatever that means).

I suppose it’s better than nothing. If you’re not sure what to expect from these games (and others PopCap have to offer then be sure to check out my Plants Vs Zombies Android post from a few weeks ago. Will let you know more as soon as I hear it.

Plants Vs Zombies, Peggle and Bewjewled are coming to the Android Market!

[UPDATE 05/11/2010PopCap have official announced a “2011” release date for Plants Vs Zombies and Peggle for Android. Click here to read more]

Well spotted by EuroDroid last night; PopCap Games tweeted that they definitely are working on some games for Android!

We can certainly expect to see their top three games appearing and for the uninitiated of you I have listed them below:

Plants Vs Zombies

Certainly one of PopCap’s most successful game of the last few years. Plants Vs Zombies sees you and your arsenal of plants fighting off hordes of zombies from entering your house and eating your brain. Sounds odd? Yes. Is it fun? Definitely! So fun in fact that I have actually purchased every incarnation on every platform they have released it on.

Peggle also has its fair share of followers. The premise of the game is simple, clear all the orange pegs from the board. Although it sounds simple it can get difficult (but never to the point you want to throw your computer out the window and head to the pub). Each character you play with has different special moves and gameplay styles so the re-playability is very high.

Zuma is a puzzle game where you must clear the coloured balls from the level. You are an ancient frog who shoots balls from his mouth and it is with these balls you can chain up combos and clear more and more balls.

Bewjewled has been around for a very long time and is one of the original ‘twist and clear’ (I just made that up) jewel games. Twist and turn jewels to match one another and clear them from the game board. Everyone has downloaded one of these style games but PopCap’s is sure to be a hit even still.

Bejeweled Android

Why it has taken so long for PopCap to get their act together for Android is yet to be known but the success of the iPhone and new platforms like Windows Mobile 7 can’t have helped things (PopCap have a good relationship with Microsoft). Whatever the reason however, PopCap can expect to hit the “Top Paid” section with their games in the Market on a handset near you soon (hopefully).

Do you have a favourite PopCap game that I haven’t listed? If so, what is it and why is it your favourite and would you like to see it on Android?

PopCap still developing Plants vs Zombies for Android?

[Update 29/10/2010 PopCap have confirmed that they are working on games for Android, check out the newer post here]

Although the development house PopCap announced a long time ago (nearly 2 years now) that they were to develop games for Android, nothing has appeared so far.

I quick sneak around their site will bring you to this: which obviously means something is going on but giving the fact it is empty may lead you to think that they’re concentrating on other things (iPhone).

Will we ever see Plants Vs Zombies dawn our Android

Desires? Will Zuma ever conquer the tiny temples on your handset? My previous attempt to find out when we would see these games just pointed me in the direction of the “Mobile Java” versions of their games – not very hopeful. Let’s hope my second attempt will shed some more light on the matter.

Plants vs Zombies, probably the most addictive cartoony tower defence available

[UPDATE] 26/10/2010

PopCap confirmed last night on their Twitter account that they definitely are still working on Android games (see below). So hopefully (maybe in time for Christmas) we will see the likes of Plants Vs Zombies, Zuma, Peggle and Bejeweled grace our phones soon!
