HTC Desire DOES NOT come with a Gorilla Glass screen

April 28, 2010
Gorilla Glass

Gorilla Glass

I’ve just had confirmation from HTC that the HTC Desire doesn’t utilise the Gorilla Glass technology in its AMOLED screen.

So the rumours were false and we do all need to be extra careful not to get our screens damaged as they are not as strong as you may have first thought.

Here’s my response below:

Dear Jon Thank you for contacting us. In regards to HTC Desire, I can help you with the confirmation that this device doesn’t use use Gorilla glass type but just standard glass prepared for AMOLED capacitive touch screen. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Best regards, Pedro S. HTC

[Update 09/06/11 Due to the recent comments on this article with links saying the Desire DOES come with a Gorilla Glass screen I decided to contact HTC again and see if they could elaborate on these findings.

This was my response:

Dear Jon ,

Thank you for contacting HTC.

We unfortunately have no official information to disclose if the glass that is in htc desire is Gorilla Glass or nott.

To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number.

So HTC won’t comment on this now. Is it possible some phones did come with the Gorilla Glass and some shipped without? Perhaps when the AMOLED screens were in short supply HTC changed something in manufacturing? I’m afraid this case is unsolved!
[Update 8/11/2011]

It has come to my attention that some people don’t believe these messages from HTC are real. I can’t say whether the original HTC Desire does or doesn’t come with Gorilla Glass due to conflicting reports from HTC and other websites – I can however put in a screenshot to prove, as best I can, that these messages from HTC were real. I don’t have the original e-mail from Pedro anymore sadly but I do still have the one from Antonio:

A detailed HTC Desire review from UK T3 Magazine

March 31, 2010

T3 have published a more detailed review of the HTC Desire on their site. They have acknowledged that the Desire is an iPhone-beater (not killer because you can’t kill a phone that’s already sold millions can you?).

Here are a few snippets:

Right now, let’s put aside that dumb phrase “iPhone killer”. The fact that a phone is better than Apple’s all-conquering, landscape-changing, gadget-genre-inventing device doesn’t “kill” it, any more than Chelsea defeating Man United means that that particular football team is dispatched to the Araldite Glue League (Northern Area). But make no mistake: this phone is better than the iPhone.

As we mentioned, the Desire is one of the most powerful Android phones on offer, and it shows when you pick it up for the first time. It reacts to your slightest touch, slipping between home screens without a hint of slowdown, and allowing you to open multiple applications without destroying the user experience.

*25 minute* HTC Desire unboxing video!!

March 27, 2010

OK so the whole video doesn’t involve someone taking 25 minutes to open a box but it is nonetheless a new unboxing video for the HTC Desire.

The video also goes on to give the Desire a once over in detail so, if you found yourself without a T-Mobile Desire this morning then you can at least make yourself feel a bit worse by watching this video:

7 reasons to NOT choose the HTC Evo 4G over the HTC Desire

March 25, 2010 have posted a nice little article telling you why you should choose an HTC Evo 4G over a Google Nexus One.

That’s all very well for US users but what about us UK folk who probably won’t see 4G for another 5 years?

Well I’ve put together my comparison list for reasons NOT to choose the HTC Evo 4G over the HTC Desire. I will use the same comparisons that Androidandme but will use the Desire as the example phone rather than the Nexus One

HD HTC Desire overview video from T-Mobile winner

March 24, 2010

The lucky b*stard man who won an HTC Desire through T-Mobile has uploaded his video to YouTube.

The video upload was one of the requirements the winner of T-Mobile’s competition had to do – You’ll find it down below.

I’m not bitter at all but I now hate T-Mobile forever for not letting me win.

HTC Desire pre-order cheapest price update: now £368.77!

March 22, 2010

On my daily scour of the Interweb for the cheapest HTC Desire price I’ve come across the cheapest so far – £368.77!

It’s from and if you pre-order the phone using your Visa Debit card you get the phone for £368.77. If you use any other card you’ll have to pay £370.62 (for some reason) which is still £17 cheaper than the previous cheapest price.

You’ll have to register your interest to be notified when the phone is in stock but it’s worth a shot.

I’ve never personally heard of but their Google Shop rating is nearly 5/5.

Here is a direct link to the phone on their site

The new and amazing *BLACK* HTC Desire “prototype”

March 22, 2010

The Internet has been full of posts about this new “prototype” HTC Desire that comes in a sleek, sexy black colour.

Granted it looks nice but isn’t “prototype” too strong a word? I think it is. You wouldn’t have called a Nokia 3310 with a red casing on a prototype would you? Well if you would then you’re stupid.

As sleek as the black prototype version of the phone looks, I can’t help but to still be in love with the original silver version.

If you want to see a black HTC Desire in action then check out the video below:

Something for the weekend: 8 minute HTC Desire Video

March 20, 2010

Just found a great little 8 minute video on YouTube showing off the HTC Desire and Legend – but mostly the Desire.

It’s not the usual MWC video where the rep just reads his script out; there’s actually a few diferent things he shows you and he certainly seems to know what he’s talking about. Makes a change at least!

Enjoy 🙂

HTC Desire – Also in Silver

March 17, 2010

I must admit, I wasn’t too keen on the silver version of the HTC Desire when I first saw it. It seems to have grown on me now though and I’m actually verging on the edge of preferring it over the black version.

Not sure whether us Brits will get the silver, black or both version of the Desire but I suppose that’ll be down to the operators to decide.

Here are my completely random predictions based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever:

Vodafone: Silver
T-Mobile: Black
Orange: Black
O2: Black
3: Silver

For some pretty exciting screenshots of both side-by-side, take a look at this site

HTC Desire vs Apple iPhone 3GS vs Nokia N900

March 16, 2010

This surely has to be the battle of the titans in the phone world? have posted an article where one of their staff has compared all three phones.

Most articles I’ve seen like this are normally biased towards a particular manufacturer or phone but I’d say that this is quite a fair comparison.

Read on for a few snippets:
